Your school represents the microcosm that we all currently live in. Very few people are held responsible for their actions. This anti social behavior is “accepted” by the system because they don’t want to be seen as intolerant to certain ethnic groups. It is popular right now to overlook the nakedness of our society and accept lawless behavior. Young people are getting away with all types of rule breaking with no punishment or responsibility. …….. even murder. Students are also being promoted to the next grade level without being able to pass their current grade. They are not learning in this environment. This will only get worse. This new system of restorative justice is killing our society and punishing people who do follow the rules. The time is right for change! Gregory do you think most teachers in your school feel as you do or are they content with this new system?
I think most teachers are skeptical of it. Most effective teachers seem to be more old-fashioned in their approach to discipline. Plus, I think many teachers are sick and tired of kids being able to get away with everything. It’s the administration that’s all-in on restorative justice and basically everyone with a PhD in education—including upper admin like the superintendent etc. I think people who know the right way to do it are either putting their heads down or are leaving the profession before they get to the administration level, so the only people who rise through the ranks are the ones who are willing to go along with the new system.
You nailed it Gregory. Best post yet.
Nothing to add. You are right on it my man. I can’t believe we let it happen. It’s embedded. It’s gonna be a heavy lift to fix it.
The system is surely broken. Your weaving of the story of the emperor with the reality of what’s happening in schools was extremely creative!

Good point Gregory. They don’t want to lose those big salaries either.
